Frequently Asked Questions

If I want to talk about starting therapy, where do I begin?

Click the contact button in the upper right and I will reach out to you to schedule a 15-minute phone consultation.

What will a 15-minute phone consultation look like?

This is a time for me to get to know what brings you to therapy and for you to get to know a little more about me. If at the end of the phone call, you would like to schedule a session we can move forward and if not, I can help provide you with some referrals to other therapists that might be a good fit.

Do you offer Telehealth sessions?

Yes, I do offer sessions via a HIPPA-compliant video service.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not directly take insurance.  Most PPO plans allow you to see an out-of-network therapist.  Call your insurance for verification.  I will then provide you with a “Superbill” that provides all the information necessary you need for reimbursement.  I’m happy to address any questions you may have on this process.

How long are sessions?

All sessions are between 45 - 50 minutes in length although longer sessions can be requested.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies for every client depending on what is bringing you in and the history of the issue.  Sometimes a circumstantial issue can be resolved in 4-6 sessions whereas trauma usually takes some time to work through.  After we meet together, I will have a better idea of what that process may look like.

What will happen in our first session?

We spend the first session getting to know one another.  This includes collaboratively identifying the issues you want to work on, the end result you desire, and a history of the problem.  We also dedicate time to address any questions you may have for me regarding the therapy process.  My personal goal for you is to leave our first session feeling heard, seen, and understood.  If we determine we are not a good fit, I have an amazing network of therapists I can recommend.  All sessions are 50 minutes in length although longer sessions can be requested.

What is the cost of a session?

My session fee is $135.

What does it mean that you have a supervisor?

Having a supervisor means I have graduated with my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy; however, I am still gaining hours toward licensure. I meet with my supervisor weekly to discuss my cases and to ensure i am providing the best care to my wonderful clients.

Do you integrate faith into sessions?

My clients are from a variety of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.  I simply meet a client where they are at based on their own value and belief system.  I only integrate my faith into the counseling process when it is requested by the client. Though I am a Christian, I work with Christians and non-Christians, people who express their faith in a variety of ways, and people who express no interest in faith or God. My focus is on helping the client work through the issues they bring into counseling. I am comfortable and confident in working with whatever issues someone brings to therapy regardless of religious perspectives. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me.

What is your approach to therapy?

My work focuses on early childhood and understanding how those primary relationships affect the individual’s ongoing emotional development and how relationships are formed today. This developmental process grows and changes throughout our life cycle. This is referred to as Attachment Theory.  I believe exploring the root of our issues facilitates healing rather than just placing a band-aid on the problem.  My work with families is similar in that, together, we look for patterns of perspective and how they influence the family structure.
